The seventh edition of the CaliFlorida Bowl, an all-star game pitting the best of California versus the best of Florida, will be played at Cal-State Fullerton on December 31st at 3pm.
With the game less than three weeks away, today Student Sports takes a first look at the California roster, which was released today by Air 7 Sports, the producers of the CaliFlorida Bowl.
This year's California roster is highlited by a record-setting quarterback, tremendous speed and athleticism at the skill positions and a defense loaded with big time playmakers.
Valencia signal caller Michael Herrick set a state record for career passing yards earlier this season and is the first Cali quarterback to throw for over 10,000 yards in his career. Sylmar running back C.J. Gable is a top five back nationally in our eyes and is expected to sign with USC in February.
A pair of Long Beach Poly wide outs, Terrence Austin and Travon Patterson, headline the pass catchers. Both receivers have speed to burn and are just as dangerous returning punts and kicks as they are split out wide or in the slot.
Colton linebacker Allen Bradford headlines the defense. Bradford, who has narrowed his choices to USC and UCLA, is arguably the nation's top player at his position and was the MVP of the NIKE Camp in Los Angeles back in April.
Oakland McClymonds defensive lineman Derrick Hill is the top-rated tackle in the West region and has drawn comparisons to former USC All-American DT Mike Patterson in terms of his size, strength and quickness of the ball.
In the secondary, hard-hitting safety Jonas Mouton out of Venice and ball-hawking cornerback Darian Hagan of Crenshaw will definitely be worth watching. Mouton has linebacker size and hitting ability but can run and Hagan, the son of former Colorado great Darian Sr., has over 20 career interceptions to his name.
